          521.  Bertha Geneva6 PENNY (Sylvester5, Thomas4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 6 October 1884 in Montgomery County, Ohio. She died 17 February 1955 in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio at age 70, and was buried 20 February 1955 in Hillgrove Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County.

     Bertha appeared on the federal census of 1900, age 16, in the household of her uncle Henry T. Lamsdale in Madison Township, Montgomery County.  She married Walter Arlando BELLMAN 6 October 1907 in Montgomery County at age 23 and in the census of 1910 Bertha, Walter, son Clarence and daughter Ada lived with Walter’s parents, Joseph and Ellen (Miller) Bellman, in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. Also in the household as a servant was Bertha’s sister Lyda, age 14.

     Walter was born 20 January 1876 in Van Buren Township, Montgomery County.  He died of liver cancer 20 June 1947 in Dayton at age 71, and was buried in Hillgrove Cemetery 23 June 1947.

     Known children of Bertha Geneva6 PENNY and Walter Arlando BELLMAN, all born in Montgomery County, Ohio, were as follows (out of birth order):

                   653        i.    Clarence David7 BELLMAN was born 8 March 1908. He died of chronic nephritis 23 September 1946 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 38, and was buried in Hillgrove Cemetery, Montgomery County. Clarence married Mae BROWN and had two daughters.

                   654        ii.    Ada Mae BELLMAN was born 2 August 1909 and married Charles BAKER.  She died 20 June 1980 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida at age 70 and was buried in Miami Valley Memory Garden, Greene County, Ohio. Ada and Charles had a daughter.

                   655       iii.    Arthur Leroy BELLMAN was born 22 November 1910 and died 27 March 1985 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, at age 74. He married Clara A. LEHMAN, the daughter of Albert A. and Nellie Lehman, who was born 17 October 1915 in Montgomery County, Ohio and died 3 May 1998 at age 82 in Tampa. Arthur moved to Florida in 1946 and worked as a carpenter for Cox Lumber Company. Arthur had four sons and four daughters.

                   656       iv.    Henry Arlando BELLMAN was born 25 July 1912 and died 5 October 1978 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 66. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery, West Milton, Miami County. Henry was married three times and the names of two wives are known: Arlene LAMP and Anna Mae HIGGINS, the daughter of James Eugene and Ivy M. (Bayliss) Higgins, who was born 29 January 1915 and died 24 December 1998 at age 83 in Troy. She was buried in Riverside Cemetery.

                   657        v.    Roy Edward BELLMAN was born 24 January 1916 and died 23 February 2000 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 84. Roy married four times. His first wife Ruby Rosella YOUNG, the daughter of Earl Alpha and Anna Mae (Bolander) Young, was born in 1920 in Montgomery County, Ohio. Roy and Ruby had at least one daughter and perhaps a second. They divorced in July 1945 and Roy next married Christine L. (--?--). The couple divorced in November 1947. A third marriage was to Cora Allene BUTLER on 19 February 1949. Cora was born 19 February 1926 and died 15 September 1988 in Montgomery County at age 62. Roy and Cora had a son. Roy’s wife at the time of his death was named Margaret.

                   658       vi.    Martha Ellen BELLMAN was born 15 June 1917 and died 10 September 1982 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida at age 65. Martha married four times, but the surnames of only three husbands are known.  In 1947, at the time of her father's death, she was Mrs. Martha BASHAM (his name was Daniel) and in 1955 at the time of her mother’s death she was Mrs. Martha LOGEL of Dayton. In 1980 at the time of her sister Ada’s death she was Martha KAUFMAN. Her husband Harold W. was born 31 May 1918 and died 15 May 2000 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida at age 81.

                   659      vii.    Margaret Marie BELLMAN was born 11 April 1921 and died 2 December 1992 at age 71. Her last residence was Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida. Margaret married first (--?--) HOLCOMB, and in 1947 at the time of her father’s death she was Mrs. Margaret Holcomb of Dayton. She married next Paul E. PENNINGTON, and in 1955 at the time of her mother’s death she was Mrs. Margaret Pennington of Dayton. Paul was born 3 February 1913 and died 6 August 1993 in Florida at age 80.

                   660      viii.    Herman Everett BELLMAN was born 15 August 1924 and died 13 October 2004 at age 80. He married Mary Jane SCOTT 18 November 1943 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Mary Jane was born 5 March 1925 in Mount Holly, Warren County, Ohio, the daughter of Israel Wright and Edna Irma (Lacy) Scott. She died 21 November 2005 at age 80. Herman and Mary had three sons and two daughters.

                                ix.   Elmer R. BELLMAN was born 25 September 1914 and died of tubercular adenitis 18 April 1915. He was buried in Hillgrove Cemetery, Montgomery County, Ohio 20 April 1915.

                                 x.   Bessie Irene BELLMAN was born 7 January 1919 and died 13 February 1919. She suffocated when she accidentally rolled under her mother when asleep. Bessie was buried 15 February 1919 in Hillgrove Cemetery, Montgomery County.

 

     523.  Nettie Leora6 PENNY (Sylvester5, Thomas4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 25 August 1890 in Elwood, Gosper County, Nebraska. It is not known why her mother was in Nebraska for her birth as all her siblings were born in Ohio. Nettie died 1 November 1977 in Ohio at age 87, and was buried 4 November 1977 in Riverside Cemetery, West Milton, Miami County, Ohio.

     Nettie appeared on the federal census of 1910 in the household of her aunt Nellie (Lamsdale) Fritz and her husband John F. Fritz in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio.

     Nettie married George McClure FUESTON, the son of Harry I. and Maggie (DeWeese) Fueston, circa 1910 in Ohio. Coincidentally, George, too, was born In Nebraska – in Somerset, Lincoln County, on 14 September 1885.  He died 16 March 1964 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio at age 78, and was buried 19 March 1964 in Riverside Cemetery. George was a veteran of the Spanish-American War and worked at Delco Products division of General Motors Corporation. In the federal census of 1930 George, Nettie and their family lived in Kings Mills, Warren County, Ohio.

     Known children of Nettie Leora6 PENNY and George McClure FUESTON were as follows:

                   661        i.    Sylvester Henry7 FUESTON was born 12 July 1911 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. He died 22 January 1955 at age 43. He resided in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio and was buried in Lebanon Cemetery there. He married Etta May [--?--] who was born 11 December 1921 and died 3 Seotember 1990 at age  68. She was bruied in Lebanon Cemetery as was her second husband John W. 'Jack' Brill, born 17 November 1921 and died 25 June 1986 at age 64.

                   662        ii.    George Melvin FUESTON was born 1 June 1914 in Indiana and died 19 October 1984 at age 70. His last known residence was in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio.

                   663       iii.    Treva Elizabeth FUESTON was born 11 February 1916 in Nashville, Brown County, Indiana and died 26 July 1993 in Torrance, Los Angeles County, California at age 77. She was cremated and her ashes scattered five miles off the shore of Newport Beach, California. Treva married David Noah WADE 8 August 1931 in Covington, Kenton County, Kentucky and they later divorced. David was born 7 August 1909 in Beattyville, Lee County, Kentucky and died 23 April 1991 at age 81. His last known residence was in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Treva and David had three sons and three daughters. Treva next married John Smithers LEMAY 28 May 1945 in Greenup, Greenup County, Kentucky. John was born 8 March 1919 and died 16 August 1990 at age 71. Treva and John adopted two sons.

                   664       iv.    Henry Irving FUESTON was born 15 May 1918 in Ninevah, Brown County, Indiana, and died 6 December 1998 at age 80. His last known residence was Middletown, Butler County, Ohio. He was buried in Deerfield Cemetery, South Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio as was his wife Willa I. [--?--] who was born 4 December 1921 and died at age 70 on 21 April 1992.

                   665        v.    Jasper Harold FUESTON was born 9 January 1920 in West Milton, Miami County, Ohio and died 2 July 2008 at age 89. Jasper resided in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio.

                   666       vi.    Blanche Margaret FUESTON was born 29 December 1922 in Casstown, Miami County, Ohio and died 30 October 1970 at age 47 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio. She was buried in Woodhill Cemetery, Franklin, Warren County, Ohio.Margaret, as she was called, married Emerson Lafette PATE, Sr., the son of Ernest Malcolm and Iola (Weaver) Pate. Emerson was born 17 December 1921 in Missouri and died 21 April 1973 at age 51 in Middletown. He was buried in Woodhill Cemetery. The couple had six sons.

                   667      vii.    Estella Mary FUESTON was born 31 March 1924 in Ohio and died 8 September 1925 in Ohio at age 1.

                   668      viii.    Earl Albert FUESTON was born 2 February 1926 in Union, Montgomery County, Ohio. He married first Betty DUNCAN and second Mary Ann SEASE. Earl and Mary Ann had a daughter and a son Virgil Glenn, born 13 May 1949 and died 21 February 1996 in Greene County, Ohio at age 46. He was buried in Dayton National Cemetery, Montgomery County. Virgil was married three times.

                   669       ix.    Robert Edward FUESTON was born in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio and married Frances (--?--). He was in the United States Navy.

                   670       x.    Minnie Mae FUESTON was born 22 April 1930 in Kings Mills, Warren County, Ohio and married James SPICER, Jr. She died 17 April 1996 at age 65 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Minnie last resided in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio.

 

     525.  Lyda6 PENNY (Sylvester5, Thomas4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 10 April 1896 in Newton Township, Miami County, Ohio. As recorded in county birth records her name was written as Lydima. Her death certificate had Lyda, with no middle name. One census record had her name as Liddie, and in another it was written Lydia. Another variation of her name, Lyda Dena, has also been noted. She herself wrote her name as Lyda. Lyda died 14 July 1965 in Stouder Memorial Hospital, Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 69 of uremia, and was buried 17 July 1965 in Curtis Cemetery, Union Township, Miami County.

          At the age of 14 Lyda worked as a servant in the household of Joseph Bellman, her sister Bertha’s father-in- law. Also in the home were Bertha, her husband Walter, and their children Clarence and Ada. Lyda married Curtis VANCE, son of John Clarence and Nettie F. (Fuller) Vance, 2 March 1918 in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio at the age of 21. Curtis was born 22 September 1896 in Piqua, Miami County, Ohio, and died 6 August 1990 at The Villa Convalescent Center in Troy, Miami County at age 93. He was buried 9 August 1990 in Curtis Cemetery. Lyda and Curtis had eight sons and four daughters. Their eldest son Carl Cecil was born 28 December 1918 in Nashville, Miami County, Ohio and died 10 October 1997 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 78. He was buried 14 October 1997 in Polk Grove Cemetery, Butler Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. The third eldest son, John Clarence, was born 25 September 1922 in Butler Township, Montgomery County and died 24 July 1947 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 24 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was buried 27 July 1947 in Curtis Cemetery. A third son Donald Lee was born 1 September 1934 in Dayton and died 17 January 2005 in Troy, Miami County at age 70.

    

 

     526.  Orville Denman6 PENNY (Sylvester5, Thomas4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 17 September 1898 in Laura, Miami County, Ohio and died 8 October 1956 in Troy, Miami County at age 58. The cause of death was a heart attack which he suffered while on a delivery for Roark Furniture Store, Laura, where he had been employed for two years. He was buried 10 October 1956 in Old Ludlow Cemetery, Laura.

    Orville married Iva Marie (Sproat) Shefbuch, the daughter of Ellis and Eleanor (Kinney) Sproat, 18 August 1928 in West Milton, Miami County. Marie, as she was known, was born 15 October 1896 in Versailles, Darke County, Ohio. She was married first to Harry Shefbuch and they had a son Howard Eugene, known as Eugene, born 9 July 1919, who died 25 July 1941 at age 22 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery. Marie died 22 February 1984 in Piqua, Miami County at age 87, and was buried 25 February 1984 in Old Ludlow Cemetery. Orville and Marie had a son and two daughters.

 

     527.  Pharis Delbert6 PENNY (Sylvester5, Thomas4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 20 September 1902 in Laura, Miami County, Ohio. He died 26 July 1961 in Montgomery County, Ohio at age 58, and was buried 29 July 1961 in Old Ludlow Cemetery, Laura.

     Pharis married Margaret Wahnita SEASE circa 1936 in Ohio. Margaret, the daughter of William and Trecie Agnes (Stump) Sease, was born 28 August 1913 in Ohio. She had a daughter Mary Ann, born 19 August 1929, who married Earl Fueston, a son of Pharis’ sister Nettie.  In 1967 Margaret died and was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery.  Pharis was a truck driver for a gravel company, per the 1930 census. In 1951 he lived in Laura and in 1954 in Northridge, Montgomery County. Pharis and Margaret had three sons and three daughters. One son, Delbert Leroy, was born 10 March 1940 and died 11 March 1954 at age 14 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. He was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery. Another son, Pharis Earl, was born 1 July 1947 and died 13 April 1996 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 48. Sonny, as he was called, served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

 

     534.  Charles Herbert6 PENNEY (William5, Thomas4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 13 November 1891 in Newton Township, Miami County, Ohio. He died 4 September 1965 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 73, and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. He was also known as Herbert, and was a mechanic and a manager of a garage. In 1930 he and his family were in Jackson Township, Champaign County, Ohio.

     Charles married Leota L. VORNHOLT 10 March 1914 in Miami County, Ohio. Leota, the daughter of John and Cecilia (Tufel) Vornholt, was born 19 June 1893 in Troy,

     Known children of Charles Herbert6 PENNEY and Leota L. VORNHOLT were as follows:

                   703        i.    Harley K.7 PENNEY was born circa 1916 in Ohio. He lived in Lancaster, Los Angeles County, California in 1965 according to his father’s obituary.

                   704        ii.    William Charles PENNEY was born 27 August 1917 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio. He died of ileo colitis 17 June 1919 in Troy, at age 1, and was buried 19 June 1919 in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.

                   705       iii.    Betty Jean PENNEY married James STEGER and lived in Rancho Cordova, Sacramento County, California in 1965 according to her father’s obituary. She was also known as Jean.

 

     556.  Lewis Albert6 BUCKINGHAM (Louisa5 Penny, Francis4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 24 December 1875 in Franklin Township, Darke County, Ohio.  He died of coronary thrombosis 27 December 1951 in Van Buren Township, Darke County at age 75, and was buried 29 December 1951 in Abbottsville Cemetery, Van Buren Township.

     Lewis married Dessie Leora ALREAD, the daughter of Isaac and Isabelle (Shields) Alread, 2 July 1902 in Darke County. Dessie was born 3 August 1880 in Ohio. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage 19 February 1950 in Greenville, Darke County at age 69, and was buried 22 February 1950 in Abbottsville Cemetery.

     Known children of Lewis Albert6 BUCKINGHAM and Dessie Leora ALREAD, all born in Darke County, Ohio, were as follows:

                   708        i.    Alvin Thomas7 BUCKINGHAM was born 26 February 1903 and died in December 1965 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 62. In the 1920 and 1930 federal censuses his name was given as Thomas. Thomas married Eva Elizabeth MULLENIX 25 April 1927 in Darke County. She was born circa 1910 in Ohio, the daughter of John and Ellen (O'Ryan) Mullenix, and died in Franklin County 1 January 1978. In 1930 Thomas worked as a machinist helper at a railroad shop in Columbus.

                   709        ii.    Gladys E. BUCKINGHAM was born 16 May 1906 and married Raymond E. VAN ORMER. Ray was born circa 1904 in Darke County and was the son of William and Lucinda Van Ormer. Gladys died 25 February 1968 at age 61 in Preble County and Ray died 17 January 1971 at age 67 in Darke County. Both were buried in Green Mound Cemetery, New Madison, Darke County.

                   710       iii.    Daerill S. BUCKINGHAM was born 10 November 1908 and married Margaret DUVALL. He died 13 October 1988 in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio at age 79, and was buried in Greenville Cemetery. Daerill was survived by his wife and a son Jack L. Buckingham of Gahanna, Ohio, according to his obituary. Daerill worked for Garbig Brothers Garage in Jaysville in Darke County.

                   711       iv.    Marlin E. BUCKINGHAM, who went by the name Bill, was born 19 April 1914 

                                      and died 23 November 1965 in Darke County at age 51. He was buried in Greenville Cemetery, Darke County. Bill served in the Ohio PFC Anti-Tank Company, 301st Infantry, in WWII. He married Florine [--?--] and they had three daughters. Florine was born 29 June 1918 and died at age 86 on 2 October 2004 in Greenville.

                   712        v.    Marcella May BUCKINGHAM was born 10 July 1918 and died 24 September 2001 at age 83. Her last known residence was Greenville, Darke County, Ohio. Marcella married Paul FOURMAN, the son of William and Ortha Fourman of Franklin Township, Darke County. Paul was born 12 October 1918 in Ohio and died 4 September 1990 at age  71.

                   713       vi.    Kathryn BUCKINGHAM was born circa 1920 and married Frank MEYER. She lived in Richmond, Indiana in 1965 at the time of her brother Alvin’s death.

 

     561.  Clarissa Clara6 BUCKINGHAM (Louisa5 Penny, Francis4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1), known as Clara, was born 27 April 1888 in Darke County, Ohio and died in Preble County, Ohio 25 May 1975 at age 87. She was buried in Monroe Cemetery, Eldorado, Preble County.

     Clara married Martin Wilbur KITSON 25 September 1909 in Arcanum, Darke County. Martin, the son of Frank and Eliza (Clay) Kitson, was born 12 December 1885 in Darke County and died in Preble County 9 September 1964 at age 78. The cause of death was asphyxiation. His body was found hanging in the garage behind his residence in Eaton, Preble County. Martin was buried in Monroe Cemetery.

     Known children of Clarissa Clara6 BUCKINGHAM and Martin Wilbur KITSON were as follows (out of birth order):

                   714        i.    Charles Harold7 KITSON, known as Harold, was born 25 June 1915 in Miami County, Ohio and died 6 January 1999 at age 83. His last known residence was in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio. He was buried in Mound Hill Union Cemetery in Eaton. Harold marrie Ruby KENNEDY, the daughter of Edison J. and Ola  M. (Olbert) Kennedy, who was born  15 May 1922 in Jefferson, Grant County, Oklahoma, and died 5 March 1998 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana at age 75. She was buried in Mound Hill Union Cemetery.

                   715        ii.    Donald Ray KITSON was born 13 December 1922 in Laura, Miami County, Ohio and died 26 November 1982 in Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado at age 59. He was buried in Memorial Gardens, Colorado Springs.

                   716       iii.    Max E. KITSON was born 30 March 1925 in Miami County, Ohio and died 28 February 2003 at age 77 in Florida. He resided in Plantation, Broward County, Florida in 1991 at the time of his brother Lowell’s death and at the time of his own death lived in Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida.

                   717       iv.    Lester Francis KITSON was born 16 March 1910 in Darke County, Ohio and died in May 1964 at age 54. He was buried in Mound Hill Union Cemetery, Eaton, Preble County, Ohio. On 2 December 1929 in Miami County, Ohio he married Vesta Zidiana SHELLENBERGER, the daughter of C.R. and Chola (Kibbey) Shellenberger, who was born 29 May 1912 in Miami County, and died in 1990 at age 78. She was buried in Mound Hill Union Cemetery.

                   718        v.    Thelma I. KITSON was born 7 May 1911 in Ohio and married Charles R. CRANE. She died 15 July 2005 at age 94, and was buried in  Spinglawn Cemetery, New Paris, Preble County, Ohio. Charles was born 30 May 1906 in Indiana and died 4 June 1972 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana at age 66. He was buried in Spinglawn Cemetery.

                   719       vi.    Lola Ethel KITSON, called Ethel, was born 21 April 1913 in Miami County, Ohio and died of a heart attack 23 June 1958 in Preble County, Ohio at age 45. She was buried in Monroe Cemetery, Eldorado, Preble County. Ethel married first Carl Russell PETRY 24 September 1936 in Preble County. He was born 17 March 1914 in that county, the son of Earl and Elizabeth V. (Tabe) Petry, and died of a cerebral hemorrhage 26 April 1940 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 26. Carl was buried 28 April 1940 in Monroe Cemetery. Ethel married second Earl E. WRIGHT.

                   720      vii.    Lowell Emerson KITSON was born 20 March 1918 in Miami County, Ohio. He died 19 December 1991 in Arcanum, Darke County, Ohio, at age 73, and was buried in Hollansburg Cemetery, Darke County. Lowell served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific during WWII and worked for Avco in Richmond, Indiana, and Parker Hannifin in Eaton. He married Fairy Mae ARMACOST and also married Lucille BLINN 8 November 1986. Fairy was born  27 February 1919 and died in April 1983 at age 64.

                   721      viii.    Lois Marie KITSON was born in 1920 in Miami County, Ohio and died as an infant.

 

     564.  Milton Melvin6 BUCKINGHAM (Louisa5 Penny, Francis4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 14 March 1895 in Painter Creek, Darke County, Ohio. He died of an apparent heart attack 2 November 1966 in his home in Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 71, and was buried in Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Newberry Township, Miami County.

     Melvin, as he was called, married Edna Marie NIESLEY 22 September 1917 in Ohio. Edna Marie, the daughter of John and Minnie (Bucholtz) Niesley, was born 6 May 1895 in Miami County, and died 5 October 1976 in Troy at age 81.  She was buried in Miami Memorial Park Cemetery. 

     Known children of Milton Melvin6 BUCKINGHAM and Edna Marie NIESLEY, all born in Miami County, Ohio, were as follows:

                   727        i.    Robert James7 BUCKINGHAM was born 5 November 1918. He lived in Concord, Contra Costa County, California in 1966 at the time of his father’s death, and in Oregon at the time of his brother Donald’s death in 1997. Robert married Helen SMITH.

                   728        ii.    Helen Irene BUCKINGHAM was born 6 May 1920 and died 10 April 2010 at age 89 in Florida. Her last known address was  Port Charlotte, Charlotte County, Florida. Helen was buried in Maple Hill Cemetery, Tipp City, Miami County. On 9 July 1939 she married Raymond Elwood DOWNEY who was boprn 13 February 1919 and died 18 Noveber 2001 at age 82 in Florida. His last known address was Fort Myers, Lee County, Florida. In 1966 when her father died Helen lived in Tipp City. In 1997 at the time of her brother Donald’s death she was in Florida.

                   729       iii.    Doris Jean BUCKINGHAM, known as Jean, was born 7 October 1921 and died 9 May 2004 at age 82 in Miami County, Ohio. She was buried in Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Newberry Township, Miami County. On 19 March 1941 in Newport, Campbell County, Kentucky Jean married Levi Albert WENRICK who was born 2 June 1920 and died 28 February 1988 at age 67. Jean lived in Covington, Miami County, Ohio in 1993 at the time of her brother William’s death.

                   730       iv.    Mildred Maxine BUCKINGHAM, known as Maxine, married Lawrence Richard SLADE 21 July 1945 in Miami County, Ohio. He was born 26 July 1926, the son of Alfred and Alda (Burkett) Slade, and died in May 1979 at age 52. Maxine lived in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio in 1993 at the time of her brother William’s death. She died in Greenville 31 October 2003 at age 78.

                   731        v.    Dorotha Jane BUCKINGHAM was born 16 February 1927 and died 22 July 2000 at age 73. She married Glenn L. SHAPPIE, the son of Sebastian and Blanche Shappie. He was born 7 June 1929 in Shelby County, Ohio and died in Darke County, Ohio 27 April 2000 at age 70. Dorotha resided in Houston, Shelby County, Ohio in 1966 at the time of her father’s death and in Gettysburg, Darke County, Ohio in 1997 when her brother Donald died. Both Dorotha and Glenn were buried in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Fort Loramie, Shelby County.

                   732       vi.    Ruth Lee BUCKINGHAM was born 23 February 1929 and died 1 October 1967 in Darke County, Ohio. She was buried in Riverside Cemetery, West Milton, Miami County, Ohio. Ruth married Jack WELDY, the son of Ora and Fern Weldy, on 14 February 1950 in Miami County. Jack was born 21 July 1926 in Ludlow Falls, Miami County, and died 10 January 1992 at the age of 65 in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was buried in Riverside Cemetery

                   733      vii.    William Joseph BUCKINGHAM was born 3 March 1931 and died 12 June 1993 in Montgomery County, Ohio at age 62. He was buried in Royal Oak Memorial Gardens, Brookville, Montgomery County. Bill Joe, as he was called, married Geraldine L. ALLISON. Bill last resided in Brookville, Montgomery County, Ohio. He worked for Mourner Testing Lab and retired in 1974.

                   734      viii.    Shirley Ann BUCKINGHAM married Robert PITSENBARGER. Shirley lived in Versailles, Darke County, Ohio in 1997 at the time of her brother Donald’s death.

                   735       ix.    Donald Richard BUCKINGHAM was born 26 October 1934 and died 12 May 1997 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio at age 62. He was buried in Miami Memorial Park Cemetery, Newberry Township, Miami County, Ohio. Donald retired from Ohio Bell Telephone Company after 34 years and resided in West Milton, Miami County. He married Beverly BARNHART.

 

     567.  Jesse Vernon6 BUCKINGHAM (Mary5 Penny, Francis4, John3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 5 June 1889 in Painter Creek, Darke County, Ohio. He died 7 June 1952 in Van Buren Township, Darke County at age 63, and was buried in Abbottsville Cemetery, Van Buren Township.

     Jesse married Clara Imo HAWES 5 September 1914 in Darke County. Clara, the daughter of Emery and Emma (Rhoades) Hawes, was born in November 1894 in Butler Township, Darke County and died 25 February 1966 in Darke County at age 71.  She, too, was buried in Abbottsville Cemetery.

     Known children of Jesse Vernon6 BUCKINGHAM and Clara Imo HAWES, all born in Darke County, Ohio, were as follows (out of birth order):

                   741        i.    Duane7 BUCKINGHAM was born 2 April 1926 and died 2 November 1978 at age 52 in Florida.  He was buried in Millwood Cemetery, Reddick, Marion County, Florida. His last known residence was Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida. Duane married Mary C. [--?--] who was born 21 October 1925 and died 5 August 1993 in Florida at age 67. She was buried in Millwood Cemetery.

                   742        ii.    Eugene BUCKINGHAM lived in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio in 1966 at the time of his mother’s death.

                   743       iii.    Clifford Theodore BUCKINGHAM was born 16 December 1915 and died at the age of 46 on 14 November 1962 in Darke County, Ohio when his tractor rolled over on him and crushed his skull. He was buried in Abbottsville Cemetery, Van Buren Township, Darke County. Clifford married Suzanne A. WESTERMAN.

 

     582.  Oren Othello6 PENNY (John5, Mercer4, Henry3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 4 September 1892 in Painter Creek, Darke County, Ohio. He died 20 December 1964 in Piqua, Miami County, Ohio at age 72 from injuries received in a two-car collision in which his wife also died. Oren, a farmer, was buried 23 December 1964 in Newcomer Cemetery, Franklin Township, Darke County

     Oren married Alma Phidelia SHELLABARGER 12 September 1917 in Miami County. Alma, the daughter of Aaron and Elizabeth D. (Mohler) Shellabarger, was born 8 June 1892 in Franklin Township, Darke County and died 10 December 1964 in Miami County at age 72 from injuries received in a two-car collision.  She was buried in Newcomer Cemetery. 

     Known children of Oren Othello6 PENNY and Alma SHELLABARGER were as follows:

                   748        i.    Robert Oren7 PENNY was born 19 February 1918 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio and died 25 September 2000 in Miami County at age 82. He was buried in Harris Creek Cemetery, Bradford, Darke County, Ohio. Robert served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a bus driver for Bradford Public School System for 17 years, retiring in 1984. On 5 October 1940 he married Glenna ROETH, the daughter of Leander E. and Mary A. Roeth and the couple had two children.

                   749        ii.    Wilma Lucille PENNY was born 26 March 1920 in Miami County, Ohio and married Dale Franklin DEETER 3 March 1940.  She died 23 November 1965 in Ohio at age 45 in Troy, Miami County. Dale, the son of Ellis and Onda Deeter, was born 6 December 1915 in Ohio, and died 17 August 1995 at age 79. His last known residence was Greenville, Darke County, Ohio. Dale was a farmer near Laura and later owned Deeter Construction Company in Greenville, retiring in 1992. The couple had two daughters.

                   750       iii.    Bernard PENNY, who also went by the name Shorty, married Ida Pearl HICKMAN and had three daughters. Shorty lived in Laura in September 2000 according to his brother Robert's obituary.

 

     596.  Earl6 PENNY (David5, Beverly4, Henry3, Thomas2, Henry1) was born 3 April 1888 in Bradford, Darke County, Ohio. He died 18 August 1969 in Miami County, Ohio at age 81, and was buried in Greenville Creek Cemetery, Newberry Township, Miami County.

     Earl married Josephine Delilah INGLE 15 February 1911 in Miami County. Josephine, the daughter of Lewis and Celia Mary (Ewing) Ingle, was born 11 May 1891 in Covington, Miami County.  She died 19 June 1944 in Troy, Miami County at age 53, and was buried in Greenville Creek Cemetery.

     Records of the Miami County Children's Home show that six of Earl's and Josephine's children were placed in the Home on 16 December 1926, the reason being Earl and Josephine were jailed, for what reason it is not known. Francis, Donald and Ruth were released back to the custody of their parents in August 1928. Edward's records show no date of discharge, but he was back in his parent's residence in 1930. Betty was discharged in March 1928; to whom is not recorded, but likely her parents since she, too, was with them in 1930. As for the twins Herschel and Harold, there was found no record for Herschel's admission to the Miami County Home. Harold was discharged in August 1927 and transferred to the Children's Home Society in Columbus. By 1930 he resided with his parents.

          Known children of Earl6 PENNY and Josephine Delilah INGLE, all born in Ohio, were as follows:

                   762        i.    Gerald J.7 PENNY was born circa 1910. He was not found in the 1930 census index.

                   763        ii.    Frances PENNY was born 28 May 1913. She was admitted to Miami County Children's Home 16 December 1926 and discharged and returned to her parents by order of the court 26 August 1928

                   764       iii.    Earl Edward PENNY was born 4 October 1914 and died 11 April 1990 at age 75. He was buried in Greenville Creek Cemetery, Newberry Township, Miami County, Ohio. Earl was admitted to the Miami County Children's Home 16 December 1926. Records show he ran away from the home 25 May 1928. No date of discharge was given, but he was with his parents in the 1930 census. Earl married  Mary DEARWESTER 9 May 1935 in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio.  Born 4 November 1918 in Bellefontaine, Logan County, Ohio, she was the daughter of  Wilson Henry and Ida Mae (Campbell) Dearwester. Mary died 13 November 1992 at age 74, and was buried in Greenville Creek Cemetery.

                   765       iv.    Ruth Marcella PENNY was born 26 May 1918. She was admitted to Miami County Children's Home 16 December 1926 and discharged 2 August 1928. Records show Ruth ran away from the home and the court placed her with her parents. She married [--?--] MCADAMS and died 4 October 1998 at age 80. Her last known residence was Middletown, Butler County, Ohio.

                   766        v.    Donald William PENNY was born 17 September 1920. He was admitted to Miami County Children's Home 16 December 1926 and was discharged 26 August 1928 and returned to his parents by order of the court. On 8 July 1943 in Miami County Donald married Esther Ella HARRINGTON. He died 4 May 1993 at age 71 in Lima, Allen County, Ohio, and was buried in Fairview Cemetery, West Alexandria, Montgomery County, Ohio. He was divorced at the time of his death. Donald and Esther had three sons and a daughter.

                   767       vi.    Betty PENNY was born 7 January 1923 and was admitted to Miami County Children's Home 16 December 1926 and discharged 28 March 1927.  Betty married [--?--] HOWELL and in 1993 resided in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio

                   768      vii.    Herschel PENNY was born 7 January 1926 in Ohio, a twin to Harold. Although he was not in the indexed records of Miami County Children’s Home he likely was placed in the home along with twin brother Harold and other siblings. He was in his parent's household in the 1930 federal census. He may have been adopted out some time thereafter, as was his twin.

                   769      viii.    Harold M. PENNY was born 7 January 1926 in Ohio, a twin to Herschel.  He was admitted to Miami County Children's Home 16 December 1926 and discharged 4 August 1927 and transferred to the Children’s Home Society in Columbus. By 1930 he was in his parents’ household. Harold died 25 May 2000 in Paulding County, Ohio at age 74 with the surname "Barfell.' The only explanation is that he was adopted out some time after 1930. His brother Donald's 1993 obituary refers to a brother Harold Barfell of Paulding, Ohio.

                   770       ix.    Wilma J. PENNY was born 8 November 1927 in Ohio and died 28 December 2001 at age 74. Her last known residence was Russells Point, Logan County, Ohio. Wilma likely married Harry C. DEARWESTER who was born 8 September 1910 and died 17 April 1993 at age 82.

                   771       x.    Jessie L. PENNY married [--?--] FERGUSON and in 1993 resided in Russells Point, Logan County, Ohio.

                   772       xi.    Robert E. PENNY, was born 31 October 1933 in Darke County, Ohio and died at age 24 on 2 October 1958 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio after a 19-month struggle with Hodgkin’s disease.  He was buried in Greenville Creek Cemetery, Newberry Township, Miami County, Ohio. Robert married Dorothy (--?--) and resided in Russell’s Point, Logan County, Ohio.
