Descendants of John McCaskey
Generation Four
47. Roberta4 MCCLELLAN (Hannah Matilda3 Downey, Jane2 McCaskey, John1) was born 17 August 1868 in Chester County, Pennsylvania and died after 1930.
She married James Hayes TURNER 16 November 1890 in Faggs Manor, Chester County and the couple and their family resided in Lower Oxford Township in that county. J. Hayes, as he was enumerated in censuses, was born 11 November 1855 in Chester County, the son of Washington B. and Eliza Jane Turner. He died between 1920 and 1930 in Lower Oxford Township.
Known children of Roberta4 MCCLELLAN and James Hayes TURNER, all born in Lower Oxford Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, were as follows:
124 i. Paul McClellan5 TURNER was born 6 November 1893. He died in February 1967 in New Jersey at age 73. Circa 1928 Paul married Helen E. [--?--], born circa 1907 in New Jersey. He was a department store merchant in Chester County in 1930.
125 ii. Robert F. TURNER was born 2 June 1896. He died in May 1971 in Pennsylvania at age 74. In the 1930 federal census he was enumerated in the household of his widowed mother, an electrician, single.
126 iii. Leah M. TURNER was born in November 1897.
127 iv. Joseph Edmondson TURNER was born 27 March 1904.
61. Edward L.4 POWERS (Margaret Jane3 Barefoot, Agness2 McCaskey, John1) was born in March 1865 in Sadsbury Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania and died after 1930 in Chester County.
Circa 1883 Edward married Mary Elizabeth TROUP, the daughter of Amos and Sarah Troup, who was born in September 1865 in Chester County, Pennsylvania. She died after 1930 in Chester County.
Known children of Edward L.4 POWERS and Mary Elizabeth TROUP, all born in Chester County, Pennsylvania, were as follows:
129 i. Edward L.5 POWERS, Jr., was born in November 1887.
130 ii. Margaret J. POWERS was born in January 1888.
131 iii. John Andrew POWERS was born 22 February 1891 and died in May 1968 in Pennsylvania at age 77. He appeared on the census of 1920 in Coatesville, Chester County, Pennsylvania with wife Mary, age 26, and son James, age 2, and was likely the John Powers living with two sons James, age 12, and Charles, age 7, in the household of Lloyd Souilliard in the 1930 census for Coatesville.
132 iv. Dora E. POWERS was born in July 1894.
133 v. James F. POWERS was born 2 April 1897 and died in June 1983 in Pennsylvania at age 86. He married Ella Barbara GLICK 18 November 1922 in Parkesburg, Chester County, Pennsylvania. Ella, the daughter of Jacob and Hannah May (Bonsall) Glick, was born 25 September 1896 in Pennsylvania.
134 vi. Blanche I. POWERS was born in March 1898.
135 vii. William Henry POWERS was born 12 May 1900 and died in August 1968 in Pennsylvania at age 68. According to marriage records for Chester County, Pennsylvania, William married 4 November 1924 C. Hanna (Clara Hanna) TOWSON, born circa 1907 in Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Harry and Amelia Towson who in 1920 resided in West Sadsbury Township, Chester County. Curiously the 1930 census gives William’s wife’s name as Marguerite and there is some likelihood that his first wife died and that he married a second time, perhaps circa 1926 as Marguerite’s age in 1930 was 21 and she was listed as married at age 17, or circa 1916. William’s daughter Dorothy was born in 1925 and was probably the daughter of Clara Hanna. Daughter Helen was born 27 September 1926 in Pomeroy, Chester County, and died 30 January 2006 in West Chester, Chester County at age 80. She married Paul Armin COFFROAD, the son of Earl Wayne and Silva Elma (Garnett) Coffroad, 31 December 1953 in Downington, Chester County, and may have been the daughter of Marguerite. William and Marguerite had a son William, born 30 August 1928 and died September 1975 in Pennsylvania at age 47.
136 viii. Charles R. POWERS was born 20 May 1902. He died in May 1973 in Pennsylvania at age 71.
137 ix. Harvey POWERS was born 28 April 1911. He died in February 1980 in Pennsylvania at age 68.
63. Walter Augustus4 BAREFOOT (Samuel Ross3, Agness2 McCaskey, John1) was born 23 July 1857 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He died of consumption (tuberculosis) 19 June 1897 in Cambridge City, Wayne County, Indiana at age 39, and was buried 21 June 1897 in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City, Wayne County, Indiana. Walter was variously a carpenter, lantern switch operator and poultry shipper for his father’s egg and poultry business.
Walter married Anna Elizabeth Lewellen, daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Harriet (McClain) Lewellen, 4 August 1883 in Farmland, Randolph County, Indiana. Anna's name was spelled "Luellen" on the Circuit Court record of this marriage but the correct spelling of her surname is Lewellen. Anna was born 30 June 1862 in Farmland. She was thought to have had a slight stroke of paralysis according to a short item in the Cambridge City Tribune dated 9 March 1891. However, she was still head of household with her children in both the 1900 and 1910 federal censuses, residing in White River Township, Randolph County. By at least 1916 Anna was an inmate in the Odd Fellows Home in Greensburg, Decatur County, Indiana where she died 16 March 1935 at age 72. She was buried 18 March 1935 in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City.

+ 138 i. Ross Franklyn5 BAREFOOT, born 2 April 1889; married Hazel Dora GIMBEL

140 iii. Mabel L. BAREFOOT was born 18 December 1892 and married William H. ANSON, known as Will, 5 February 1913 in Union City, Randolph County, Indiana. Will was born in May 1887 in Darke County, Ohio, the son of Samuel H. and Lavina B. Anson who were in Washington Township, Darke County in the 1930 federal census. The family story is that Mabel's husband, Will Anson, left her shortly after World War I and remarried. However, there is some evidence that instead he died, leaving her a widow. In the 1920 census for Amesbury, Essex County, Massachusetts, enumerated 9 January 1920, there was a William H. Anson, age 32, born in Ohio, auto inspector in a body shop, and wife Mabel, age 27, born in Indiana, lodging in a private home in Amesbury. Based on names, ages, and places of birth, this was very likely Will and Mabel. In the 1930 census, Mabel Anson was a roomer in a home in Cleveland, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, age 37, born in Indiana, working as a cashier in a drug store. Her marital status was given as widow. In this day many women adopted the label ‘widow’ because of the stigma attached to ‘divorcee’, so there may have been a divorce, as per the family story, but some time after World War I. However, no William or Will Anson with the correct age or birth place was found in the 1930 census index and consequently he may, indeed, have been deceased, leaving Mabel a widow. It is known for a fact that in 1934, Mabel moved to Cambridge City, Indiana (from some place not known) to help her elderly grandmother, Barbara Barefoot, and it was here she died 16 May 1964 at age 71. Mabel was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Cambridge City, Wayne County.

Elam worked in the wholesale produce business in Cowan and was mayor of the city in 1904.
Elam married Mary Katherine FELTON 23 May 1889 in Muncie, Delaware County. Mary Katherine was born 7 May 1866 in New Burlington, Delaware County, the daughter of Elijah and Elvina (Clements) Felton.
