Generation One

 

 

     1.  John1 FIRTH was born 9 October 1814 in Doncaster, Yorkshire, England and died 7 September 1881 in Mercer County, Ohio at age 66. He was buried in Green Mound Cemetery, Fort Recovery, Mercer County.

      On 1 November 1835 in Yorkshire, England, Rotherham Parish, John married Martha THEOBOLD who was born 9 November 1817 in England. She died 19 August 1893 in Mercer County at age 75, and was buried in Green Mound Cemetery.

     According to his obituary: John came to America in 1839 and went back to England in 1850, then returned to America in 1856 [more likely late 1857 or 1858]. He went to Fort Recovery in 1865 and was a member of the Protestant Episcopal Church. He was buried in Green Mound Cemetery, leaving a wife and five children.

Generation Two

 

 

     2.  Mary2 FIRTH (John1) was born 9 April 1836 in England. She died 29 July 1871 in Montgomery County, Ohio at age 35, and was buried in Spangler Cemetery, Mad River Township, Clark County, Ohio. Mary was a mantian maker. A mantian is a cloak and variations of the word later designated a horse blanket.

     Mary married 9 October 1859 in Montgomery County William LAMSDALE, the son of John and Mary Ann (Steward) Lamsdale, who was born 2 January 1835 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England. William was in school until age nine then assisted his father who was a carpet weaver. He emigrated from England to the United States and was likely the passenger indexed as William Lonsdale, age 22, who departed Liverpool on the ship ‘Wyoming’, arriving in Philadelphia 1 January 1856. This passenger’s occupation was given as weaver and it is known that once in America William engaged in the carpet weaving trade and later took up farming. William became a naturalized citizen on 5 October 1863 in Dayton, Montgomery County. John Firth and George Firth were witnesses and were likely the father and brother of William’s wife. After Mary’s death William married second 3 July 1872 in Hockingport, Athens County, Ohio Eunice W. Swan, the daughter of Lawrence Bradley and Emily (Dustin) Swan. She was born 4 March 1852 in Athens County and died of cerebral spinal fever 2 July 1889 at age 37. Eunice was buried in Trissel Cemetery, Jackson Township, Montgomery County. William and Eunice had daughters Rena Elizabeth who married William Henry Erisman, and Nellie Caroline who married Irvin I. Fuls and John Frederick Fritz. William married third Alice Coles 2 April 1891 in Montgomery County. He died 15 August 1898 in Jackson Township, Montgomery County at age 63, and was buried in Trissel Cemetery.

                 11     iv.    Mary Annie LAMSDALE was born 14 August 1870. She died 4 September 1871 in Ohio at age 1, and was buried in Spangler Cemetery, Mad River Township, Clark County, Ohio.

                 12      v.    Lillie LAMSDALE, birthdate unknown.

 

     3.  Jane2 FIRTH (John1) was born 25 December 1837 in England and died of apoplexy 19 March 1912 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 74. She was buried 21 March 1912 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.

     Circa 1856 Jane married Thomas STANILAND, the son of Charles and Hannah (Clark) Staniland, who was born 26 October 1831 in Harthill, Yorkshire, England. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage 23 November 1921 in Dayton at age 90, and was buried  25 November 1921 in Woodland Cemetery. Thomas was a marble dealer and owned Dayton Marble Works.

                 13       i.    Frederick3 STANILAND was born in June 1858 in Ohio. He died 30 July 1858 in Ohio and was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

                 14      ii.    Frances M. STANILAND was born in 1859 in Ohio and died 20 November 1860 in Ohio. She was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. She was also known as Fannie per her cemetery record.

            +   15      iii.    Anna L. STANILAND, born October 1862 in Warren County, Ohio; married Frank L. KIRKPATRICK; married James F. NIXON   .

                 16     iv.    Charles J. STANILAND was born in February 1865 in Ohio and married Louise E. HOWLETT 28 September 1897 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. She was born in September 1877 in Indiana.  The couple and their daughter Helen Avis, born 2 February 1899 in Minnesota, lived in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota in the 1900 federal census and in 1910 were enumerated in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota where Charles was manager of a granite company. He died 11 May 1917 at age 52, and was buried 14 May 1917 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. After his death Louise and Helen settled in Chicago.

                 17      v.    Frank T. STANILAND was born 6 November 1867 in Ohio. He died of cardiac decompensation 6 July 1924 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 56, and was buried 9 July 1924 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton. Frank, a plumber, married circa 1905 Mary E. [--?--] who was born circa 1872 in Ohio.

            +   18     vi.    Lillian M. STANILAND, born 5 March 1870 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio; married Myron H. HARDY.

                 19    vii.    Jessie STANILAND was born circa 1873 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

                 20    viii.    Richard Henry STANILAND was born 9 February 1878 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. He died 4 July 1950 in Los Angeles County, California at age 72. On 16 December 1903 in Montgomery County Richard married Harriet E. HAMILTON, the daughter of A. H. and Margaret (Andress) Hamilton, who was born 1 October 1880 in Pennsylvania. She died 26 January 1963 in Orange County, California at age 82. Richard was a designer and draftsman and later owner of a used car business in Los Angeles.

 

     4.  Anna Louisa2 FIRTH (John1) was born 20 September 1843 in Morristown, Morris County, New Jersey. She died as a result of a broken femur suffered in a fall 15 June 1922 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, at age 78. Anna was buried 19 June 1922 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

     Anna married John H. COLLINS 3 May 1870 in Mercer County, Ohio. Supposedly John, who was born in 1837 in Maryland, the son of Peter M. and Britana Collins, had a shoe store in Bradford, Miami County, Ohio and when he died 9 April 1879 at age 42 Anna's mother went there to help her sell the store. Anna moved to Dayton and later to Columbus. John was buried 14 April 1879 in Woodland Cemetery. His sister Masrtha married Anna’s brother William Firth (see #6 below)

     Known children of Anna Louisa2 FIRTH and John H. COLLINS, both born in Ohio, were as follows:

                 21       i.    Pearl M.3 COLLINS was born in February 1874. She died 10 December 1956 in Ohio at age 82, and was buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Pearl married 15 August 1901 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio George E. MITCHELL, the son of Martin V. and Anna Rebecca (Carlisle) Mitchell, who was born 30 July 1858 in Zanesville. He died of broncho pneumonia 26 December 1929 in Columbus at age 71, and was buried 30 December 1929 in Greenwood Cemetery. George was in the marble monuments business.

                 22      ii.    Neva J. COLLINS was born 10 December 1877 and died 27 January 1963 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 85. She was buried 30 January 1963 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Neva, a high school teacher, never married.

 

     5.  George2 FIRTH (John1) was born in 1846 in New Jersey and married Harriet Wade CROSS. He died 5 May 1891 in Ohio, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

     Harriet was born in July 1852 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio and according to her death certificate was the daughter of Richard Sharpe Cross. She died of lobar pneumonia 25 December 1935 in Dayton at age 83, and was buried 28 December 1935 in Memorial Park, Dayton.

     Known children of George2 FIRTH and Harriet Wade CROSS were as follows:

                 23       i.    Luella F.3 FIRTH was born in December 1874 in Michigan. She never married and died 22 June 1961 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 86.

            +   24      ii.    Walter Albert FIRTH, born 19 May 1875 in Ohio; married Margaret May SHELLABARGER.

            +   25      iii.    Robert Henry FIRTH, born 19 March 1880 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio; married Ella Louisa BAILER.

 

     6.  William2 FIRTH (John1) was born in January 1853 in England and was married circa 1871. The name of his first wife is not known but according to census records for his son Charles she was born in Illinois. She likely died and in 1880 William and their two children were enumerated in the household of his parents in Gibson Township, Mercer County, Ohio.

     On 18 March 1883 in Mercer County William married Martha Bell COLLINS, the daughter of Peter and Britana Collins and sister to John H. Collins who married William’s sister Anna Louise (see #4 above). She was born 20 July 1856 in Fort Recovery, Mercer County. In the 1900 federal census William, Martha and children resided in Ocean Springs, Jackson County, Mississippi, as did William’s brother Edward Firth and family. By 1910 William and family were in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi, while brother Edward and family had returned to Ohio.

      Martha died 6 February 1912 in Corinth and was buried in the city cemetery. The date and place of William’s death has not been found in any records.

            +   26       i.    Charles E.3 FIRTH, born 21 August 1872; married Margaret Evelyn HOLDEN.

                 27      ii.    Lillian FIRTH was born circa 1875.

     Known children of William2 FIRTH and Martha Bell COLLINS were as follows:

                 28       i.    Frank Marill3 FIRTH was born 9 December 1885 in Granville Township, Mercer County, Ohio. He died before 1900.

                 29      ii.    Verna Tessola FIRTH was born 3 February 1888 in Mercer County, Ohio. She died at age 40 in 1928 in Corinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. Verna was buried in Corinth City Cemetery.

                 30      iii.    LeRoy Leslie FIRTH was born in 1890 in Mississippi and died in February 1963 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee at age 73. He was buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis. Circa 1915 LeRoy married May Bell [--?--] who was born circa 1900 in Mississippi, and in the 1920 census they were enumerated in Beat 5, Tippah County, Mississippi where he operated a lumber mill. The couple had a daughter Frances Aleen, born 2 October 1921 in Mississippi and died 6 December 1953 in Memphis at age 32, who married Clifton C. CROUSE, born 3 November 1918 and died 13 June 1970 at age 51. Both were buried in Memorial Park Cemetery. They also had daughters Lela Delores and Eleanor, both born in Memphis.

 

     7.  Edward Theobold2 FIRTH (John1) was born in 1857 in Yorkshire, England. On 7 January 1883 in Mercer County, Ohio he married Mary Ann JONES, the daughter of Edward and Mary Ann (Rood) Jones, who was born 7 December 1862 in Ohio. In the 1900 federal census Edward, Mary Ann and children were enumerated in Ocean Springs, Jackson County, Mississippi as was Edward’s brother William and his family. William’s family remained in Mississippi but by 1910 Edward and his family had returned to Ohio and resided in Greenville, Darke County. They subsequently moved to Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana and it was here in 1931 that Edward died at age 74. He was buried in Green Mound Cemetery, Mercer County. Mary Ann died 11 May 1932 in Richmond at age 69.

     Known children of Edward Theobold2 FIRTH and Mary Ann JONES were as follows:

                 31       i.    Martha Beatrice3 FIRTH, known as Beatrice, was born 10 November 1883 in Gibson Township, Mercer County, Ohio. She died of valvular heart disease 19 June 1916 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 32, and was buried 21 June 1916 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton. Circa 1909 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana Beatrice married Harry O. CREAGER, the son of Jonathan M. and Hannah L. Creager, who was born 1 December 1890 in Indiana. By 1920 Harry was remarried to Marie A. Reichenberger, born in 1894 in Ohio and died 7 October 1941 at age 47. He died 10 March 1930 in Montgomery County, Ohio at age 39, and was buried with Marie in Davids Cemetery, Kettering, Montgomery County.

                 32      ii.    Mary Iva FIRTH was born 15 February 1885 in Gibson Township, Mercer County, Ohio and died 19 November 1959 in Celina, Mercer County at age 74. On 20 December 1902 in Mercer County Mary married Francis Meridan JONES, the son of Francis Marion and Elizabeth Jane (Manning) Jones.  Frank, as he was known, was born 20 December 1902 in Mercer County and was the operator of a livery barn and garage. The couple divorced and he died of a coronary occlusion and cancer of the liver 1 December 1952 in Fort Recovery, Mercer County at age 77. Frank was buried 3 December 1952 in Rose Hill Cemetery, Rose Hill, Darke County, Ohio.

            +   33      iii.    John Edward FIRTH, born 19 January 1887 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky; married Mabel GIBSON; married Edith CARRINGTON.

                 34     iv.    Robert Orlando FIRTH was born 16 May 1891 in Mississippi and married Audrey CONE 7 June 1923 in Butler County, Ohio. An insurance agent, he died in 1954 in Ohio at age 63, and was buried in Venice Cemetery, Ross, Butler County. Audrey, the daughter of William and Carrie (Butterfield) Cone, was born 1 May 1901 in Butler County and died there in 1989 at age 88. She was buried in Venice Cemetery. Robert also went by the name Orlando.

                 35      v.    Owen M. FIRTH was born 8 August 1893 in Goshen Springs, Rankin County, Mississippi and married Freda Clare SEIFERT 14 April 1917 in Wayne County, Indiana. He died in October 1972 in Ohio at age 79 and was buried in East Lawn Cemetery, Minerva, Stark County, Ohio. His last known residence was Malvern, Carroll County, Ohio. Freda was born 9 October 1893 and was the daughter of Charles A. and Cordelia (Schellert) Seifert. She died in February 1973 in Richmond, Wayne County at age 79. Owen was assistant superintendent at an iron foundry in New Castle, Henry County, Indiana in the 1930 federal census, and in 1940 he and his family resided in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio where he was a moulder in a foundry. Owen and Freda had three sons and two daughters.

                 36     vi.    Elsie C. FIRTH was born in October 1895 in Mississippi.

                 37    vii.    William FIRTH was born 13 March 1899 in Ocean Springs, Jackson County, Mississippi and died in September 1974 in Indiana at age 75. William married 19 September 1934 in New Castle, Henry County, Indiana Bessie L. BELL, daughter of James H. and Dora (York) Bell, who was born 19 April 1906 in Kentucky and was married previously 24 July 1925 in Henry County to Marion R. Roach. She had two sons by her first marriage.

Generation Three

 

 

     8.  Henry T.3 LAMSDALE (Mary2 Firth, John1) was born 22 June 1861 in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdomen 23 August 1930 in Perry Township, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 69, and was buried 26 August 1930 in Hillgrove Cemetery, Montgomery County.

     Henry owned 76 acres of land in Madison Township, Montgomery County and was engaged in general and dairy farming and raised stock.  He was one of the largest tobacco growers in his part of the country. Henry was a member of the Lutheran church and served as one of its deacons and as the superintendent of the Sunday school for 12 years.  He was on the school board for nine years.

    Henry married first 25 February 1883 in Montgomery County Sarah Jane HEETER, the daughter of Sebastian and Catharine (Ernst) Heeter, who was born 12 April 1857 in Madison Township, Montgomery County. She was an invalid for a number of years and died of measles 6 July 1906 in Madison Township at age 49. Sarah was buried in Hillgrove Cemetery.

     On 14 April 1910 in Montgomery County Henry married second Mary A. HENGER, the daughter of Andreas and Ann (Plocher) Henger, who was born 2 July 1854 in Bergfelden, Schwarzwald, Wurttemberg, Germany and came to the United States in 1855. She married first 8 December 1872 in Montgomery County Martin Weaver and had eight children, one of whom, Anna May, married Mary’s stepson Vernon Lamsdale. Mary and Martin divorced. She died of broncho pneumonia 15 April 1925 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 70, and was buried 18 April 1925 in Hillgrove Cemetery.

     Henry married third Saloma KING between 1925 and 1930. Loma, as she was called, was born 2 April 1866 in New Lebanon, Montgomery County, the daughter of Noah and Saloma (Hay) King. She was married previously 2 April 1885 in Montgomery County to Daniel Webster Miller. Loma died 27 February 1940 in Dayton at age 73, and was buried 2 March 1940 in Eversole Cemetery, New Lebanon.

     Known children of Henry T.3 LAMSDALE and Sarah Jane HEETER, all born in Madison Township, Montgomery County, Ohio, were as follows:

                 39       i.    John Franklin4 LAMSDALE was born 23 February 1885. He died 7 January 1968 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 82 and was buried in Lower Miami Cemetery, Dayton. Circa 1909 John married Clercie Viola PERRY, the daughter of J. M. Perry, who was born 26 May 1890 in Madison Township, Montgomery County. She died 19 June 1977 at age 87, and was buried in Lower Miami Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. Their children, all born in Montgomery County, were Earl Henry, born 22 December 1909 and died of a coronary thrombosis 17 March 1949 at age 39, who married Allie Marie DAVISON; Hazel Catherine, born 21 January 1914 and died 26 October 1978 at age 64 in Altoona, Blair County, Pennsylvania; Louella Lorine, born in 1920 and died in Montgomery County 24 June 1965 at age 45, who married Hiram Lloyd DEMORET; and Evelyn Violet who married Frank SOMSEL, Jr.

                 40      ii.    Vernon Monroe LAMSDALE was born 25 July 1888 and married Anna May WEAVER 11 July 1911 in Hamilton County, Ohio. She was born 2 November 1895 in Montgomery County, Ohio, the daughter of Martin and Mary A. (Henger) Weaver. Her mother was the second wife of Vernon’s father. Vernon and Anna divorced and she married second 2 July 1925 in LaPorte County, Indiana Charles Thomas Quinn. Vernon committed suicide by hanging 11 July 1932 in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County at age 43, and was buried 18 July 1932 in Hillgrove Cemetery, Montgomery County. Vernon and Anna had daughters Dorothy M., born 11 August 1911 and died 19 June 1998 at age 86 in Seattle, King County, Washington, who married Ernest H. NEVILLE; Vera I., born 19 August 1913 and died 24 June 1999 at age 85 in Bellevue, King County, Washington, who married Leo WESTERBECK; and Marjorie L., born 13 July 1919 and died 24 February 1997 in King County, Washington at age 77, who married Ernest Ted OLSON. Anna died 26 February 1989 in Mount Vernon, Skagit County, Washington at age 93, and was buried in Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood, Snohomish County, Washington.

                 41      iii.    Edna Mae LAMSDALE was born 30 April 1896 and married John Irvin ROSELL 24 February 1916 in Montgomery County, Ohio. She died 5 February 1976 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 79, and was buried in Pyrmont Cemetery, Perry Township, Montgomery County. John, the son of Charles A. and Ada M. (Deglar) Rosell, was born 17 April 1897 in Montgomery County and died 11 October 1973 in that county at age 76. He was buried in Pyrmont Cemetery. Their children were Lawrence Luther, born 16 July 1916 and died 9 May 2002 in California at age 85, who married Elnora T. MEAD; Charles M., born 6 October 1918 and died 11 November 1987 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio at age 69, who married Mallora V. ELBERG; Albert H., born 24 January 1921 and died 3 July 1998 in Port William, Clinton County, Ohio at age 77, who never married; Philip, born 7 February 1924 and died in Dayton 28 January 1968 at age 43; Harold Theophilus, born 16 October 1927 and died in Dayton 18 February 2002 at age 74; and Lester P., born 14 April 1931 and died in Dayton 24 April 2002 at age 71.

     There were no known children of Henry T.3 Lamsdale and Mary A. Henger.

     9.  Martha Elizabeth3 LAMSDALE (Mary2 Firth, John1) was born 18 December 1862 in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. She died of lung cancer 19 March 1951 in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio at age 88, and was buried 22 March 1951 in Old Ludlow Cemetery, Laura, Miami County, Ohio.

     On 1 July 1882 in Miami County Mattie, as she was commonly called, married Sylvester Henry PENNY, the son of Thomas W. and Mary Ann (Addington) Penny. Sylvester, who went by the name Buck, was born 26 June 1860 in Monroe Township, Darke County, Ohio.  A farmer, he served as Laura village marshall. Buck became a Quaker in 1898 and remained in that faith until his death of paralysis of the lower extremities and heart lesions 3 May 1929 in Laura at age 68. He was buried 5 May 1929 in Old Ludlow Cemetery.

     Known children of Martha Elizabeth3 LAMSDALE and Sylvester Henry PENNY were as follows:

                 42       i.    Bertha Geneva4 PENNY was born 6 October 1884 in Montgomery County, Ohio. She died 17 February 1955 in Lebanon, Warren County, Ohio at age 70, and was buried 20 February 1955 in Hillgrove Cemetery, Montgomery County. On 6 October 1907 in Montgomery County Bertha married Walter Arlando BELLMAN, the son of Joseph and Ellen (Miller) Bellman, who was born 20 January 1876 in Van Buren Township, Montgomery County. He died of liver cancer 20 June 1947 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 71, and was buried 23 June 1947 in Hillgrove Cemetery. Their children, all born in Montgomery County, Ohio were Clarence David, born 8 March 1908 and died of chronic nephritis 23 September 1946 in Dayton, who married Carrie Mae BROWN; Ada Mae, born 2 August 1909 and died 20 June 1980 in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida at age 70, who married Charles BAKER; Arthur Leroy, born 22 November 1910 and died 27 March 1985 in Tampa, Florida at age 74, who married Doris E. FOX and Clara A. LEHMAN; Henry Arlando, born 25 July 1912 and died 5 October 1878 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 66, who married Arlene LAMP and Anna Mae HIGGINS; Elmer R., born 25 September 1914 and died 18 April 1915; Roy Edward, born 26 January 1916 and died 23 February 2000 in Clark County, Ohio at age 84, who married Ruby Rosella YOUNG, Christine L. She died 1 November 1977 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 87, and was buried 4 November 1977 in Riverside Cemetery, West Milton, Miami County, Ohio. George was born 14 September 1885 in Somerset, Lincoln County, Nebraska, the son of Harry I. and Maggie (DeWeese) Fueston. He died 16 March 1964 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio at age 78, and was buried 19 March 1964 in Riverside Cemetery. The couple had children Sylvester Henry born 12 July 1911 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana and died 22 January 1955 in Ohio at age 43, who married Etta May [--?--]; George Melvin, born 1 June 1914 in Indiana and died 19 October 1984 in Dayton at age 70; Treva Elizabeth, born 11 February 1916 in Nashville, Brown County, Indiana and died 26 July 1993 in Torrance, Los Angeles County, California at age 77, who married David Noah WADE and John Smithers LEMAY; Henry Irvin, born 15 May 1918 in Ninevah, Brown County, Indiana and died 6 December 1998 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio at age 80, who married Willa Lee Mae [--?--]; Jasper Harold, born 9 January 1919 in West Milton, Miami County, Ohio and died 2 July 2008 at age 89, who married Clara Maria ERNSTE; Blanche Margaret, born 29 December 1922 in Casstown, Miami County, Ohio and died 30 October 1970 in Middletown, Butler County, Ohio at age 47, who married Emerson Lafette PATE, Sr.; Estella Mary, born 31 March 1924 in Ohio and died 8 September 1925 at age 1; Earl Albert; Robert Edward who married Frances BURNELL; and Minnie Mae, born 22 April 1930 and died 17 April 1996 in Dayton at age 65, who married Ollie James SPICER.

                 45     iv.    Mary Ellen PENNY was born 18 September 1893 in Ohio and married Jesse Cameron COOK circa 1914. She died 5 May 1981 in Ohio at age 87, and was buried 8 May 1981 in Holp Cemetery, Farmersville, Montgomery County, Ohio. She was called 'Mamie'. Jesse was born 23 June 1884 in Montgomery County, the son of John A. and Sarah Eva (Apple) Cook. He died 21 July 1956 in Montgomery County, Ohio at age 72, and was buried 24 July 1956 in Holp Cemetery. Mary and Jesse had no children.

                 46      v.    Lyda PENNY was born 10 April 1896 in Newton Township, Miami County, Ohio. As recorded in county birth records her name is written as Lydima. Her death certificate has Lyda, with no middle name. She married Curtis Vance, son of John Clarence and Nettie Florence (Fuller) Vance, 2 March 1918 in Greenville, Darke County, Ohio. Lyda died of uremia 14 July 1965 in Troy, Miami County, Ohio at age 69, and was buried 17 July 1965 in Curtis Cemetery, Union Township, Miami County. Curtis was born 22 September 1896 in Piqua, Miami County and died 6 August 1990 in Troy at age 93. He was buried 9 August 1990 in Curtis Cemetery. Lyda and Curtis had children Carl Cecil, born 28 December 1918 in Nashville, Miami County and died 10 October 1997 in Troy at age 78, who married Charlotte Emma LEHWALD; Earl Henry who married Evelyn SWADNER; John Clarence, born 25 September 1922 in Butler Township, Montgomery County and died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident 24 July 1947 in Montgomery County at age 24; Pauline Lucille who married Harold Edgar BAREFOOT; Dorothy Marie who married Herbert Franklin RHOADES; Robert Eugene who married Margaret Lucille MILLER; Mary Elizabeth who married Harold Lockwood SWADNER; Victor Norman who married Georgia Alberta LOVETT; Donald Lee, born 1 September 1934 in Dayton, Montgomery County and died 17 January 2005 in Troy, Miami County at age 70, who married Mary Frances WALTERS and Evangeline BEATTY; Curtis, Jr. who married Mildred M. KRYMAN and Maria Antonia CACCIATORE; Dean Richard who married Shirley Alice PRICE; and Patricia Irene who married Dale NORTH.

                 47     vi.    Orville Denman PENNY was born 17 September 1898 in Laura, Miami County, Ohio and died of a heart attack 8 October 1956 in Troy, Miami County at age 58. He was buried 10 October 1956 in Old Ludlow Cemetery, Laura. On 18 August 1928 in West Milton, Miami County Orville married Iva Marie SPROAT, the daughter of Ellis and Rebecca Eleanor (Kinney) Sproat, who was born 15 October 1896 in Versailles, Darke County, Ohio. She died 22 February 1984 in Piqua, Miami County at age 87, and was buried 25 February 1984 in Old Ludlow Cemetery. Iva had a son Howard Eugene, known as Eugene, born 9 July 1919, whose natural father was Harry Shefbuch. He died in an auto accident 25 July 1941 and was buried as Eugene Penny next to Orville and Iva in Old Ludlow Cemetery. Orville and Iva Marie had children Richard Ellis who married Janice Arlene KRESS; Doris Jean, born 10 January 1933 in Vandalia, Montgomery County, Ohio and died 15 May 2011 in Troy at age 78, who married Robert Eugene DITMER; and Alice Jane.

                 48    vii.    Pharis Delbert PENNY was born 20 September 1902 in Laura, Miami County, Ohio. He died 26 July 1961 in Montgomery County, Ohio at age 58, and was buried 29 July 1961 in Old Ludlow Cemetery, Laura.  Pharis married Margaret Wahnita SEASE, the daughter of William M. and Tracie Agnes (Stump) Sease, who was born 28 August 1913 in Monroe Township, Darke County, Ohio. She died in 1967 in Ohio at age 54, and was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery. Margaret had a daughter Mary Ann, born out of wedlock, whose first husband was Earl Fueston, son of Pharis Penny's sister Nettie. Pharis and Margaret had children Pharis Delbert, Jr., born prematurely 7 June 1932 and died 9 June 1932, who was buried in Old Ludlow Cemetery; Ruth Elizabeth, born 1 November 1937 and died 4 September 1964 in Montgomery County at age 26; Donald Cameron; Delbert Leroy, born 10 March 1940 and died 11 March 1954 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 14; Juanita June; Pharis Earl ‘Sonny’, born 1 July 1948 and died 13 April 1996 in Dayton at age 47, who married Rita Rene LUX; and Martha Agnes.

 

     10.  James A.3 LAMSDALE (Mary2 Firth, John1) was born 25 January 1866 in Jackson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio. He died of tetanus from an accidental cut that occurred in his home in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County 6 January 1917 at age 50, and was buried 10 January 1917 in Lower Miami Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County.

     On 20 January 1889 in Montgomery County James married Lena GEORGE, the daughter of Jonas Y. and Fanny (Neidich) George, who was born 17 January 1870 in Montgomery County. She died of pulmonary tuberculosis 4 February 1910 in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County at age 40, and was buried 7 February 1910 in Lower Miami Cemetery.

     Known children of James A.3 LAMSDALE and Lena GEORGE, all born in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio, were as follows:

                 49       i.    Ada May4 LAMSDALE was born 26 March 1890 and died of pulmonary tuberculosis 16 April 1914 in Jefferson Township, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 24. She was buried 19 April 1914 in Lower Miami Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County.

                 50      ii.    Nellie Ruth LAMSDALE was born 2 June 1896.

                 51      iii.    William Albert LAMSDALE was born 8 November 1898 and died 9 November 1965 in Ohio at age 67. He was buried in Lower Miami Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. William appeared on the census of 1920 in Camp Dix, Burlington County, New Jersey and in the 1930 census was in Highland Park, Wayne County, Michigan. He enlisted in the U.S. Army 10 November 1942 in Richmond, Virginia.

                 52     iv.    Susie E. LAMSDALE was born 16 January 1903.

                 53      v.    Mary A. LAMSDALE was born circa 1907 and died 15 April 1925 in Montgomery County, Ohio.

 

     15.  Anna L.3 STANILAND (Jane2 Firth, John1) was born in October 1862 in Warren County, Ohio and married first Frank L. KIRKPATRICK 18 November 1880 in Montgomery County, Ohio. He was born in 1860 in Dayton, Montgomery County and died 9 January 1884 in that city at age 24. Frank was buried 11 January 1884 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.

     On 23 October 1889 in Montgomery County Anna married second James F. NIXON, the son of Thomas and Sarah (Murphy) Nixon, who was born in June 1856 in Dayton. In the 1900 federal census James and Anna were enumerated in Marseilles, LaSalle County, Illinois where James was a paper manufacturer. They cannot be located in subsequent censuses.

     Known child of Anna L.3 STANILAND and Frank L. KIRKPARICK was:

                 54       i.    Robert F.4 KIRKPATRICK was born 21 November 1882 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. A musical director, he died of pulmonary tuberculosis 13 November 1910 in Dayton at age 27, and was buried 15 November 1910 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio.

 

     18.  Lillian M.3 STANILAND (Jane2 Firth, John1) was born 5 March 1870 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. She died 13 February 1955 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 84, and was buried 17 February 1955 in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton.

     On 17 August 1891 in Montgomery County Lillian married Myron H. HARDY, the son of John and Grace Hardy, who was born 28 September 1869 in Mansfield, Richland County, Ohio. He died of cardiac decompensation 27 February 1943 in Dayton at age 73, and was buried 1 March 1943 in Woodland Cemetery. Myron was central inspection weighing bureau for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

                 55       i.    Janet A.4 HARDY was born in December 1892 in Montgomery County, Ohio.

 

     24.  Walter Albert3 FIRTH (George2, John1) was born 19 May 1875 in Ohio and married Margaret May SHELLABARGER 16 January 1909 in Montgomery County, Ohio. He died 12 April 1959 in Dayton, Montgomery County at age 83.

     Margaret was born 11 October 1875 in Ohio, the daughter of Enos and Rebecca (Weybright) Shellabarger. She died 29 August 1952 in Dayton at age 76, and was buried 2 September 1952 in Memorial Park, Dayton.

     Known child of Walter Albert3 FIRTH and Margaret May SHELLABARGER was:

                 56       i.    George Enos4 FIRTH was born 24 November 1909 in Montgomery County, Ohio. He died 8 November 1969 in Ohio at age 59.

 

     25.  Robert Henry3 FIRTH (George2, John1) was born 19 March 1880 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. His name was given as Robert Harry on his World War I draft registration and as Harry in the 1880 census. He died 8 November 1962 in Dayton at age 82, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery in that city.

    A physician, Robert married 12 November 1907 in Montgomery County Ella Louisa BAILER, the daughter of William C. and Clara A. (Weckler) Bailer, who was born 21 April 1886 in Montgomery County. She died 11 May 1981 in Dayton at age 95, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery.

     Known child of Robert Henry3 FIRTH and Ella Louisa BAILER was:

                 57       i.    Robert Henry4 FIRTH, Jr., was born 16 August 1909 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio. He died 11 September 1998 in Ohio at age 89, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Dayton. Robert married Helen F. [-?--] who was born 11 May 1914 and died 7 February 1997 at age 92. She was buried in Woodland Cemetery.

 

     26.  Charles E.3 FIRTH (William2, John1) was born 21 August 1872 in Ohio and died 21 September 1940 in Biloxi, Harrison County, Mississippi at age 68.

     On 24 December 1893 in Jackson County, Mississippi Charles married Margaret Evelyn HOLDEN, the daughter of Daniel D. and Margaret Josephine (Manship) Holden, who was born 10 May 1872 in Vancleave, Jackson County. She died 31 December 1951 in Jackson County at age 79. Both Charles and Margaret were buried in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Vancleave.

     Known children of Charles E.3 FIRTH and Margaret Evelyn HOLDEN, all born in Jackson County, Mississippi, were as follows:

                 58       i.    Lillian Josephine4 FIRTH was born 1 April 1895 and died 19 January 1983 in Jackson County, Mississippi at age 87. She was buried in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Vancleave, Jackson County. Lillie, as she was known, had a son Frank Louis Maples, born 20 October 1912 and died 7 July 1986 at age 74, who was buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Frank, who may have been born out of wedlock, married Virgie Lee FAIRLEY. Lillie married first 15 October 1914 in George County, Mississippi Isaac Malone COWART, the son of Henry and Media (Rodgers) Cowart, who was born 3 March 1889 in Mississippi and died 26 May 1927 in George County at age 38. They had children William Henry, born 19 August 1915 and died 19 May 1946 at age 30; Ruth Marie, born 16 September 1918 and died 13 February 1984 at age 65, who married Curtis Lazelle BYRD; Ellis Elroy, born 10 June 1922 and died in World War II on 7 February 1945 at age 22; and Isaac Raymond, born 31 October 1924 and died 25 February 1999 at age 74. All were buried in Magnolia Cemetery. Lillian married second Leonard Jefferson WHITE, the son of Thomas Jefferson and Lucretia Jane (Fletcher) White, who was born 22 February 1879 and died 29 May 1942 at age 63. He was buried in Magnolia Cemetery. By 1940 Leonard and Lillie had two sons.

                 59      ii.    William Daniel FIRTH was born 10 September 1896. He died in September 1963 in Pascagoula, Jackson County at age 67, and was buried in Machpelah Cemetery, Pascagoula. William, a carpenter in a shipyard, married circa 1917 Effie Jane CAIN who was born in 1892 in Mississippi and died in 1970 in Pascagoula at age 79. She was buried in Machpelah Cemetery. William and Effie had children Elma, born in 1918 who married [--?--] RUSSELL; Stova W., born in 1920 and died in 1942 at age 22, an ensign, who was buried in Machpelah Cemetery; Dorris Elvera, born 16 December 1923 and died 4 February 2011 in Pascagoula at age 87, who married Clifton Gerald WATTS; and William ‘Willie’ Cain, born 12 March 1927 and died 5 May 2012 in Covington County, Mississippi, who married Kathryn DUNN.

                 60      iii.    Henry Eddy FIRTH was born 3 July 1898. He died 20 September 1900 in Jackson County, Mississippi at age 2, and was buried in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Vancleave, Jackson County, Mississippi.

                 61     iv.    Lee Roy FIRTH was born 12 September 1901 and died 30 October 1953 in Mississippi at age 52. He was buried in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Vancleave, Jackson County, Mississippi. Lee, a barber, married Mary Alice WHITTINGTON 27 December 1921 in George County, Mississippi. Known as Alice, she was born 13 March 1901 in Mississippi, the daughter of Allen Turner and Nancy Jane (Wilson) Whittington, and died in that state 2 July 1977 at age 76. Alice was buried in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery. Lee Roy and Alice had a daughter Mildred Erline, known as Erline, born 2 July 1923 in George County and died in Ocean Springs, Jackson County at age 86 on 24 January 2010, who was buried in Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Harrison County, Mississippi. She married Luther L. GUNN. They also had a son Enos C., born 23 October 1927 in George County and died in that county 30 November 1989 at age 62. He was buried in Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery.

                 62      v.    Olen Hillary FIRTH was born 3 April 1904. He died 19 December 1950 in Mississippi at age 46, and was buried in Pine Bluff Cemetery, George County, Mississippi. Olen married 25 July 1923 in George County Celeste PARKER who was born 28 January 1904 in Mississippi and died in that state 27 September 1984 at age 80. She was buried in Woodlawn Park Cemetery, Wiggins, Stone County, Mississippi. They had five known children.

                 63     vi.    Stella Tessola FIRTH, known as Tessola, was born 18 June 1907 and died 5 March 1992 in Jackson County, Mississippi at age 84. Circa 1924 Tessola married Johnie W. CARNLEY who was born 2 February 1900 in Florida and died 18 April 1971 at age 71 in Jackson County. Tessola and Johnie were buried in Magnolia Baptist Cemetery, Vancleave, Jackson County along with their children Audrey Irene, a twin, born 26 November 1925 and died 11 February 2010 at age 84, who married [--?--] HIBBIT; Aubrey Estelle, a twin, born 26 November 1925 and died 9 May 2002 at age 76, who married Henry P. OVERSTREET; Jack, born 29 November 1926 and died 29 September 2008 at age 81, who married Jennie V. OVERSTREET; Jerry Doyle, born 12 April 1930 and died 21 May 1999 at age 69; Fay Nell, born 15 June 1931 and died 30 September 2007 at age 76, who married George W. PARNELL; and Carol who married Fred MOE.

                 64    vii.    Charlie Aubern FIRTH was born 20 September 1909. He died 22 September 1941 in Mississippi at age 32, and was buried in Taylor Cemetery, Perry County, Mississippi.

                 65    viii.    Fred Louis FIRTH was born 14 January 1912. He died 11 July 1979 in Biloxi, Harrison County, Mississippi at age 67, and was buried in Biloxi City Cemetery. Fred married Lela A. BOATWRIGHT, the daughter of Robert and Mary Boatwright, who was born 27 September 1916 in Clementon, Camden County, New Jersey and died there 2 February 2009 at age 92. She was buried in Biloxi City Cemetery. Lela married second Thomas Dunn.

                 66     ix.    Carl I. FIRTH was born 28 February 1915 and died 15 January 1998 at age 82. His last known residence was Kentwood, Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana. Carl married Sarah A. [--?--] who was born 17 May 1917 in Mississippi and died 24 April 1999 at age 81.

 

     33.  John Edward3 FIRTH (Edward Theobold2, John1) was born 19 January 1888 in Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky. He died in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana 1 January 1965 at age 76, and was buried in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Richmond.

     On 28 September 1912 in Wayne County John married Mabel GIBSON who was born in March 1898 in that county, the daughter of Charles and Effie (Lyons) Gibson. The couple divorced and she married second 10 April 1923 in Butler County, Ohio Oscar J. Bauman.

      John married second circa 1925 in Wayne County Edith CARRINGTON who married and divorced Charles Milton Carrington. She had sons Carl R. Carrington, born 28 November 1911 and Robert N. Carrington, born 4 February 1916. Edith was born circa 1888 in Indiana and died 19 September 1968 in Richmond. She was buried in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

     Known child of John Edward3 FIRTH and Mabel GIBSON was:
